The search for a good name for a journal is as always a delicate matter. The former journal on Syrphidae was called Volucella a genus within the family of Syrphidae. An new journal with another genus name seemd a little odd, but the name should clearly indicate its toppic: Syrphidae. The study on Syrphidae, in common Flowerflies or Hoverflies could be called Syrphidology. Neither of these terms seemd appropriate as the logo of the journal should match the housestyle SiT from Syrphidae in Trees or SF from Syrphidae Foundation and its focus should be international.
The first option was Syrphidae Journal, but now the International aspect was not in the name, so maybe International Journal of Syrphidology, IJS could be understood by Dutch native speakers as icecream. Shuffeling the words would give Journal of International Syrphidology; JIS. A possibly dubious abbreviation and as Gabriel Nève pointed out the study is not international but the scope of the journal is. So I left out the international making its initials JS.
After a phonecall with my brother Wouter it was decided the journal should have my initials and the full titel became "Journaal van Syrphidae": JvS.
